Liposuction Procedure: Five Facts Behind The Consultation Phase

Before undergoing liposuction procedure there are a few steps that you must consider. This is to make you ready and comfortable during the process. Aside from preparing before the process, you also need to take hints during and after the session.

The first thing that you must do is to choose an expert cosmetic surgeon.  He must have at least five years of experience in surgery alone and two years in plastic surgery.  He must be well-trained in all of the procedures like breast, body, face, and reconstructive surgery.  He must perform the liposuction procedure in an accredited medical clinic or hospital.  You must see to it that he follows the code of ethics prescribed by the Association of Surgeons.  You must make sure that your safety is his first priority.

The consultation phase for liposuction

During the initial phase or consultation, you must make sure that you are aware of the following vital points of liposuction.  This will help you decide on whether or not you should lie down on a surgical bed.

1. Procedure and benefits.  It is a must that you are properly informed of everything concerning the procedure as well as the benefits you can derive from it.

2. Expectations.  During the consultation phase, you must discuss everything about your condition and your expectations regarding the procedure so that your surgeon can assess whether the procedure is safe for you or not.  You must inform him about the things he must need to know like your health problems and the current medical treatments that you are undergoing.

3. Evaluation.  The moment your surgeon learned everything he needs to know about you, he will evaluate your condition then he will tell you if liposuction is good for you or not.  He will also explain to you all the risks involved in this procedure.

4. Laboratory Tests.  Before the procedure is performed, your surgeon may require you to undergo some laboratory tests for further medical evaluation.  He may also ask you to adjust your current medications, if there is any.

5. Special Instructions.  Your surgeon will also give you special instructions before the procedure like the things you must do on the day of the liposuction, the anesthesia that he will use, the care you will need after the process and your follow-up check-up after the liposuction.

Liposuction procedure

On the day of the liposuction, the first thing your surgeon will do is to administer anesthesia in order to make you comfortable.  You will be given a choice between general anesthesia and intravenous sedation.  After you had been given an anesthesia or IV, your surgeon will begin the incision where the sterile solution is saturated to lessen the bleeding and shock.

When this is already done, the surgeon will insert the liposuction tube into the incision.  This will break down the fat using a managed back and forth movement.  Then the broken fats will be aspirated through a surgical vacuum or syringe that is connected to the cannula.

When the liposuction procedure is completed, you will notice some puffiness on your skin.  You do not have to worry as it will apparently subside after a few days.  You must maintain a healthy diet and not to gain weight so that the result of the liposuction will not be altered.
