Liposuction Techniques: Differentiating Old From Modern Methods

There are different liposuction techniques used nowadays. It usually depends upon the surgeon conducting it and the awareness of the patient. Take time to read about the differences of one from the other.

Surgeons Inspecting Patient During LiposuctionThere are several groups of liposuction techniques that are being performed by cosmetic or plastic surgeons.  You can differentiate this various techniques through the quantity of solution that is inserted into your skin before the procedure is performed.  Another factor is through the utilization of equipment to help out during the customary liposuction process.

Old and modern liposuction techniques

There are old liposuction techniques which are no longer of use nowadays.  There are also modern ones which are more advisable to patients.  Take a look at the difference of one from the other.

1. Dry Technique.  This does not involve local anesthesia that must be administered into the fat of the patient before the liposuction process.  This technique is no longer advisable for use because of too much blood loss for the patient.

2. Wet Technique.  This kind of liposuction technique involves general anesthesia to be injected to the patient before the procedure.  It needs about 100 milliliters of local anesthesia that contain epinephrine to be inserted to the fat of the patient.  Although the blood loss for this type of technique is lesser than the dry technique, it is still risky because of the blood you may lose.

3. Super Wet Technique.  This type of liposuction also involve general anesthesia.  The quantity of local anesthesia that is administered to the patient is lesser than the quantity used for the more modern tumescent technique.  The blood loss is lesser than the wet technique.

4. Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction (UAL).  This technique involves high quantity of tumescent fluid that utilizes either a metal explorer or scull to transport ultrasonic power and warmth to the topmost layer of your fat. UAL requires general anesthesia or heavy intravenous sedation.  This liposuction technique is no longer performed to this date because of the risk involved.  Some people who undergone this kind of technique suffered serious burns and scarring.

5. Tumescent Technique.  This technique involves higher quantity of injection of an adulterated local anesthesia solution that contains lidocaine and epinephrine.  The said quantity is enough to make the marked fat turn solid.    It is not considered risky because only 1% of blood is removed during the process.

6. Power Assisted Technique (PAL).  This equipment is already available at present.  PAL equipment utilizes power energy through an electric motor in order to create a speedy in-and-out progress to the connected liposuction cannula.  The manufacturers of PAL devices claim that this will make the procedure easier for the surgeon.  However, there are skeptics against the benefits of these techniques because there is no supporting evidence yet that can substantiate their claims.

Why opt for tumescent technique than the others?

The dry technique and other liposuction methods that had already been abandoned due to the excessive blood loss for the patient and the dangers involved differentiates it from the tumescent technique. Tumescent is a more advance technique and it is considered safe because the patient is given local anesthesia before the procedure and there is no blood loss involved.  This is famous to a lot of modern-day patients who read to ensure their health.

You always have the last say when undertaking any procedure.  Aside from looking after the cost and the benefits, make sure that you know the side effects as well.  This will help you decide on what you could do for your cellulite and fat.
